Baier Lab: Order

How to order fish

Published fish lines are available upon request, with no restrictions to academic research.

Please email Herwig if you are interested in a particular line (transgenic or mutant). The allele number will be helpful. Tell us if you prefer an incross (between two carriers) or an outcross (carrier crossed to TL, WIK, or Tübingen) and when you need them. As a rule, we only ship out clutches of embryos (unless you give us a really good reason for why you need adults). You may want to avoid shipments during the winter, especially to the US East Coast and Europe.

We will try our best to get the fish to you as requested, but we cannot guarantee their availability. For instance, we may have discontinued the line or may have to revive it from frozen sperm, before we can ship it to you. If that's the case there may be simpler alternatives, such as other alleles you could use for your experiment or other sources, which may have your favorite fish in stock. We therefore recommend that you briefly describe your project in the message box below. This will give us an opportunity to provide you with feedback and suggestions for alternatives if necessary. Your information will be treated with the utmost confidentiality.

MTA?
With the fish, we may send you a simple material transfer agreement (MTA), in which you promise to use the fish for non-commercial research only. Please return the MTA to us as soon as possible. (If you are a commercial user who wishes to obtain zebrafish from us please indicate so in the message box. We will then send you a different MTA.)

Handling fee?
We are an academic research lab with no grant support dedicated to holding fish lines for the community. We may therefore charge you a small handling fee, which is calculated based on the time it takes us to fulfill your request, plus some overhead costs. The total amount will be less than what it costs to buy an antibody or a restriction enzyme from a commercial supplier.
